Why does my stomach hurt every time I cough?
Pain in the abdomen with each cough may be caused by muscle spasms, pneumonia, fallopian tube stones, or other reasons.
1. Muscle Spasm
During coughing, intra-abdominal pressure increases and abdominal muscles are engaged. When coughing is frequent or forceful, the abdominal muscles may become fatigued, leading to spasms or cramps. This can result in a buildup of lactic acid in the muscles, causing pain.
2. Pneumonia
When the lungs are infected or inflamed, localized secretions increase and lung mucosa may become damaged. This can cause abdominal pain during coughing, accompanied by symptoms such as coughing, blood in sputum, and high fever.
3. Fallopian Tube Stones
When fallopian tube stones are present, they may induce spasms in the upper segment of the tube, leading to fluid accumulation (hydrosalpinx) and dilation. This can cause lower back discomfort, back pain, and stomach cramps. During coughing, patients may experience severe cramping and radiating abdominal pain.
Besides the above, conditions such as lung tumors could also be responsible. It is recommended to visit a hospital for a thorough examination to identify the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment.
