Can I drink water after taking a shower?
It is okay to drink water after taking a shower.
During a shower, the high water temperature causes the body to sweat, leading to fluid loss. Additionally, cleansing products such as soap and shampoo can strip moisture from the skin. Drinking water after bathing does not have adverse effects on the body. In fact, it helps replenish lost fluids, maintain the body's hydration balance, and support overall health.
While showering, blood circulates throughout the body and heart rate increases. For individuals with weak physical conditions, drinking a large amount of water immediately afterward may increase the burden on the heart and could lead to symptoms such as sweating and rapid breathing. Therefore, it is best not to drink water right after showering. Instead, rest for 5–10 minutes until your body temperature and heart rate gradually return to normal, then sip warm water in small amounts.
If the water temperature is too high or the shower lasts too long, excessive dehydration may occur. In such cases, it is advisable to reduce both shower time and water temperature to avoid negative health effects. Moreover, individuals with specific medical conditions, such as heart disease or kidney disease, should follow medical advice regarding bathing and fluid intake.
