Introduction
Erysipelas of the face is a common bacterial infectious disease. Main symptoms include facial pain, redness, swelling, and fever. The condition is primarily caused by skin injuries, ulcers, varicose veins in the lower limbs, and other factors. In addition, it may also be caused by spider angiomas. Once symptoms such as facial redness, swelling, and pain appear, prompt medical treatment should be sought to prevent worsening of the condition.

Facial erysipelas is generally a common bacterial infectious disease. Main symptoms include facial pain, redness, swelling, and fever. The condition is primarily caused by factors such as skin breaks, ulcers, and varicose veins in the lower limbs. Specific details are as follows:

I. Symptoms

1. Pain

The affected area often feels painful, with the severity of pain increasing along with the progression of erysipelas.

2. Redness and Swelling

The most prominent symptoms of erysipelas are swelling and red patches. These appear as bright red, localized, irregularly shaped lesions that feel firm and may spread rapidly to other areas.

3. Fever

Patients may experience varying degrees of fever, sometimes reaching as high as 40°C.

In addition, symptoms such as pus formation and discharge may occur, and there is potential for serious complications like bacteremia.

II. Causes

1. Skin Breaks

Skin injuries combined with external environmental factors—such as climate and pollution—can lead to erysipelas. Clean the affected area daily with warm water and a mild soap, then gently pat dry with a soft towel.

2. Ulcers

If abrasions, ulcers, or broken skin on the face become infected by invading bacteria, erysipelas can develop. Oral medications such as Penicillin V potassium tablets or Benzathine penicillin tablets may be taken under medical guidance.

3. Varicose Veins in the Lower Limbs

The presence of varicose veins in the lower limbs causes slow blood flow in the veins, altering local temperature and pH, impairing tissue metabolism, and leading to fluid accumulation. This disrupts local lymphatic circulation, provoking inflammatory responses that result in erysipelas. Blood-activating and stasis-resolving medications such as Xuefu Zhuyu Capsules or Huoxue Zhitong Capsules may be used according to physician instructions.

In addition, spider angiomas may also contribute. Once symptoms such as facial redness, swelling, or pain appear, prompt medical attention is recommended to prevent worsening of the condition.
