What causes the recurring gas-like pain inside the right rib cage?
Persistent gas-like pain in the right rib area may be caused by intercostal neuralgia, bronchitis, cholecystitis, or other conditions. It is advisable to visit a hospital for a thorough examination to determine the exact underlying cause.
1. Intercostal Neuralgia
When the intercostal nerves are irritated, inflamed, or compressed, pain may occur in the areas they innervate, leading to discomfort within the rib cage. The pain often worsens during breathing, coughing, or sneezing. Under the guidance of a qualified physician, treatments such as pulsed radiofrequency or nerve electrical stimulation may be used to relieve pain.
2. Bronchitis
Chronic nonspecific inflammation of the trachea, bronchial mucosa, and surrounding tissues can develop due to exposure to allergens or infection with pathogenic microorganisms, resulting in bronchitis and causing pain in the right rib area. Pain typically becomes more pronounced during deep breathing or coughing. It is recommended to take antibiotic medications such as Penicillin V Potassium Tablets, Amoxicillin Capsules, or Cefixime Capsules under a doctor's supervision to prevent further disease progression.
3. Cholecystitis
Repeated inflammatory irritation of the gallbladder lining can lead to edema and pus formation in gallbladder tissue, causing a sensation of gas-like pain in the rib area. Symptoms often become more noticeable after a heavy meal. Follow medical advice to take medications such as Dehydrocholic Acid Tablets, Xiaoyan Libidan Tablets (anti-inflammatory and gallbladder-regulating tablets), or Jindan Tablets to reduce inflammation, promote bile flow, and alleviate symptoms.
In addition, metastatic malignant tumors to the right ribs may also cause similar pain. Once symptoms appear, prompt medical evaluation and active treatment under a doctor’s guidance are essential to prevent worsening of the condition.
