Introduction
Diarrhea with foam usually refers to foamy diarrhea. In general, foamy diarrhea occurring after meals may be caused by improper diet, cold abdomen, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, acute gastroenteritis, etc. If necessary, medications such as domperidone tablets or Jianwei Xiaoshi tablets can be taken under a doctor's guidance. It is also advisable to increase the frequency of meals while reducing the amount of food consumed per meal.

Diarrhea with foam usually refers to diarrhea accompanied by foamy stool. In general, foamy diarrhea occurring after meals may be caused by improper diet, abdominal chilling, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), acute gastroenteritis, and other conditions. A detailed analysis is as follows:

1. Improper Diet

Eating too quickly or consuming excessive amounts of food can overburden the gastrointestinal tract. Large quantities of food are broken down and fermented by intestinal bacteria, producing excess gas, which leads to diarrhea with foam. Adjust eating habits by slowing down meal times and chewing food thoroughly. Avoid binge eating and aim to keep portion sizes moderate. Consider increasing meal frequency while reducing the amount consumed per meal.

2. Abdominal Chilling

If the abdomen is exposed to cold after eating, it may trigger accelerated gastrointestinal motility. Increased intestinal movement shortens the time food remains in the intestines, preventing adequate absorption and resulting in diarrhea. Cold exposure may also disrupt the intestinal digestive environment, leading to excessive gas production and foamy stools. Keep the abdomen warm and avoid cold air or cold beverages immediately after meals. Applying a hot water bottle to the abdomen can help relieve gastrointestinal spasms.

3. Indigestion

Various factors that impair intestinal digestion and absorption can lead to incomplete fat absorption, causing patients to excrete excessive fat in their stool—a condition known as steatorrhea. Characteristic steatorrheic stools are foamy or greasy, often floating on the surface of water, and may result in foamy diarrhea. It is recommended to take medications such as domperidone tablets, Jianwei Xiaoshi tablets (digestive health tablets), or rabeprazole sodium enteric-coated capsules under medical supervision.

4. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

This is a common functional bowel disorder that may be triggered by emotional stress, pressure, dietary factors, and others. After eating, food stimulates the intestines, triggering an exaggerated motility response, leading to diarrhea. Gas and digestive fluids are rapidly expelled through the hyperactive intestines, forming foamy diarrhea. It is recommended to use medications such as dl-anisodamine tablets, Bifidobacterium triple viable capsules, or lactasin tablets under medical guidance to alleviate symptoms.

5. Acute Gastroenteritis

Acute gastroenteritis is an acute inflammation of the gastrointestinal mucosa caused by various factors, commonly due to unhygienic diets, bacterial infections, or parasites. Symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, high fever, and dehydration. In this condition, intestinal fluid, gas, and feces are expelled together, forming foam—resulting in diarrhea with foam. It is recommended to take medications such as norfloxacin capsules, smectite powder (montmorillonite), or Bifidobacterium quadruple viable tablets as directed by a physician.

In daily life, it is advisable to maintain a light diet and avoid spicy or irritating foods such as garlic, spicy hot pot, and mustard. Adequate rest should be ensured, and excessive fatigue should be avoided to prevent adverse effects on overall health.
