Introduction
In general, pain in the testicular appendages may be caused by varicocele, testicular torsion, epididymitis, orchitis, or spermatic cord cysts, and targeted treatment is required. Varicocele refers to the dilation and enlargement of veins around the testicle. Symptoms include testicular pain, a sensation of swelling, and visible enlarged blood vessels. Patients are advised to avoid wearing tight underwear and to refrain from prolonged standing or sitting.
Generally, pain in the testicular appendages may be caused by varicocele, testicular torsion, epididymal appendage inflammation, orchitis, or spermatic cord cysts, and targeted treatment is required. Specific analyses are as follows:
1. Varicocele: Varicocele refers to the dilation and enlargement of veins around the testicle. Symptoms include testicular pain, a sensation of swelling, and visible vein enlargement. Patients are advised to avoid wearing tight underwear, prolonged standing or sitting, and to apply local cold compresses and bed rest. Severe cases may require surgical intervention.
2. Testicular Torsion: Testicular torsion occurs when the testicle or epididymis twists, obstructing blood flow. Common symptoms include acute testicular pain, swelling, and fever. This condition is a medical emergency requiring immediate medical attention and surgical detorsion.
3. Epididymal Appendage Inflammation: This refers to inflammation of the small tissue attached to the testicle. Common symptoms include pain in the scrotum or perineum, redness, swelling, and fever. Treatment typically involves antibiotics under medical guidance, such as ceftriaxone sodium for injection or levofloxacin tablets.
4. Orchitis: Orchitis is an inflammation of the testicle, with common symptoms including testicular pain, fever, and swelling. Bed rest and local cold or warm compresses are recommended to relieve discomfort.
5. Spermatic Cord Cyst: A spermatic cord cyst is a fluid-filled sac that forms within the spermatic cord. Symptoms may include a lump in the testicle or scrotum and a feeling of discomfort. Most cases do not require treatment; however, if the cyst is large or symptomatic, surgical removal may be considered.
For any testicular or appendage pain, prompt medical evaluation is recommended. Accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment should be determined by a physician based on clinical assessment.
