Introduction
In general, severe nighttime pain in the right arm may be caused by incorrect sleeping posture, prolonged use of the right arm, osteoporosis, periarthritis of the shoulder, cervical disc herniation, or other reasons. Additionally, it may also be related to nerve lesions, heart problems, and similar conditions. If symptoms such as worsening pain at night occur, prompt medical evaluation at a hospital is necessary, and timely management should be carried out under a doctor's guidance.

Generally, severe nighttime arm pain may be caused by incorrect sleeping posture, prolonged use of the right arm, osteoporosis, shoulder periarthritis (frozen shoulder), cervical disc herniation, and other conditions. It is recommended to follow medical advice for symptomatic treatment. Specific analysis is as follows:

1. Incorrect Sleeping Posture

If a patient frequently sleeps on their side at night, the right arm may remain compressed for extended periods. Over time, this can impair blood circulation in the right arm, leading to ischemia and hypoxia of the nerves, potentially causing spasms and resulting in pain during the night. Therefore, it's important in daily life to maintain proper sleeping posture—such as supine position or alternating between left and right lateral positions—along with a reasonable sleep schedule to ensure good sleep quality and relaxation of the musculoskeletal system.

2. Prolonged Use of the Right Arm

This may result from continuously using the right arm for work. Frequent usage can lead to excessive lactic acid buildup in the arm muscles, causing pain, swelling, and discomfort. Timely rest is essential; avoid further use of the right arm to allow adequate recovery. When soreness occurs, gently massaging the affected area with the opposite hand can help relieve muscle tension and discomfort.

3. Osteoporosis

Pain might be triggered by an episode of osteoporosis. In such cases, abnormal bone proliferation may occur in the right arm, irritating surrounding tissues and causing pain. Patients can take vitamin AD soft capsules, calcium gluconate oral solution, or similar medications under medical supervision, which help improve bone health.

4. Shoulder Periarthritis (Frozen Shoulder)

This condition causes pain around the shoulder joint, often accompanied by restricted movement. During the painful phase, symptoms typically worsen at night and may last approximately 2–9 months. As the disease progresses, nighttime pain may gradually turn into constant, all-day discomfort, with significantly reduced range of motion in the shoulder joint. For patients experiencing notable pain, doctors may recommend medications such as ibuprofen sustained-release capsules or eperisone hydrochloride tablets to reduce tissue inflammation and alleviate skeletal muscle tension.

5. Cervical Disc Herniation

In patients with cervical disc herniation, narrowing of the intervertebral foramen can compress nerve roots, leading to ischemic edema of the nerves. If the pillow height is inappropriate or the neck is left unsupported during sleep, radicular pain radiating to the upper limb may occur. It is recommended that patients take medications such as ibuprofen granules or meloxicam capsules under medical guidance to effectively relieve nerve root pain.

Besides the above, nighttime arm pain may also be related to nerve disorders, cardiac issues, or other causes. If pain significantly worsens at night, prompt medical evaluation is necessary, and timely management should be carried out under a doctor’s supervision.
