Introduction
In general, emphysema is a non-contagious disease and typically does not spread to family members. Emphysema refers to abnormal, persistent dilation of the air spaces distal to the terminal bronchioles in the lung, accompanied by destruction of the alveoli and terminal bronchioles without obvious pulmonary fibrosis. Pathological changes include lung hyperinflation, reduced elasticity, a gray-white or pale appearance, and multiple large bullae of varying sizes visible on the surface.
