Introduction
A pimple-like lesion found at the corner of the eye is most commonly a stye (hordeolum) on the eyelid. A stye presents with localized redness and tenderness. It is primarily caused by bacterial infection and requires appropriate antibiotic therapy to reduce inflammation. During treatment, avoid spicy, stimulating, or greasy foods, as these may contribute to “internal heat” (a traditional Chinese medicine concept associated with inflammation) and exacerbate the condition.

If you notice a pimple-like bump near the corner of your eye, I strongly recommend consulting an ophthalmologist promptly. It may be a stye (hordeolum), an inflammatory condition affecting the meibomian glands in the eyelid—also known as meibomian gland inflammation or simply “stye.” A stye typically presents with localized redness and tenderness, progressing to a painful, swollen area.

An abscess may form at the affected site, leading to pus accumulation. If the area is congested, a visible pus-filled “head” may develop. This condition is primarily caused by bacterial infection; therefore, targeted antibiotic therapy is required for anti-inflammatory treatment.

However, before initiating anti-inflammatory treatment, it is essential to thoroughly cleanse the secretions from within the abscess and disinfect the wound. Topical antibacterial ointment should be applied locally. Early intervention yields the best outcomes for stye management. Additionally, maintaining good ocular hygiene is crucial—avoid rubbing your eyes with unwashed hands, which helps prevent stye formation.

During treatment, avoid spicy or greasy foods, as they may exacerbate symptoms. Keep the surrounding skin clean—poor hygiene can worsen infection. Drink plenty of water, get adequate rest, and avoid staying up late. Concurrent illnesses or sleep deprivation can compromise immune function, potentially worsening the condition.
