Can ginseng be consumed directly by steeping in water?
Ginseng can usually be steeped directly in hot water and consumed. It is recommended to use it under the guidance of a physician. When preparing it by steeping, consume an appropriate amount.

As a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, ginseng can be consumed in various ways, and direct steeping in water is one of the common methods. For healthy adults, moderate amounts of ginseng, usually sliced or cut into pieces, can be steeped directly in water for drinking, which helps refresh the mind, enhance physical strength, and boost immunity. For individuals with weak constitutions, who are prone to fatigue and have weakened immunity, moderate consumption of ginseng steeped in water can help replenish vital energy and improve overall health.
Slice the ginseng into thin pieces approximately 1-2 millimeters thick, which increases the surface area exposed to water and facilitates the release of active components. If using dried ginseng, it can first be slightly steamed to soften it before slicing. The water temperature should not be too high; ideally, use hot water at 80-90°C for steeping. Excessively high temperatures may damage some active ingredients in ginseng, while water that is too cool may not adequately extract the active components. The steeping time should not be excessively long, generally 10-20 minutes. Prolonged steeping may cause the active ingredients in ginseng to degrade.
Ginseng tea is best consumed in the morning or early afternoon, as it helps invigorate the mind and replenish energy. During ginseng consumption, avoid eating spicy, greasy, or cold foods, as well as foods like radish and mung beans that may interfere with its therapeutic effects.
