Introduction
Sweet potatoes are rich in dietary fiber and are not easily digested. In individuals with weak gastrointestinal function, consumption may easily lead to indigestion, stomach bloating, and stomach pain. It may also increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract and affect the recovery of normal gastrointestinal function. Sweet potatoes can stimulate the excessive secretion of gastric acid. In patients with gastric ulcers, this may exacerbate the irritation of the gastric mucosa by gastric acid, thereby worsening ulcer symptoms.

Generally, individuals with weak gastrointestinal function, patients with gastric ulcers, diabetic patients, people suffering from diarrhea, and those allergic to sweet potatoes should avoid consuming sweet potatoes.

1. Individuals with weak gastrointestinal function: Sweet potatoes are rich in dietary fiber and are not easily digested. Consumption by individuals with weak gastrointestinal function may easily lead to indigestion, bloating, or stomach pain, and could increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract, affecting the recovery of normal gastrointestinal function.

2. Patients with gastric ulcers: Sweet potatoes may stimulate excessive secretion of gastric acid. In patients with gastric ulcers, this can intensify the irritation of gastric mucosa by gastric acid, worsen ulcer symptoms, cause discomfort such as pain and heartburn, and hinder recovery.

3. Diabetic patients: Sweet potatoes have a relatively high glycemic index. Consumption by diabetic patients may lead to rapid increases in blood glucose levels, which is unfavorable for stable blood sugar control and increases the risk of diabetes-related complications.

4. People suffering from diarrhea: Sweet potatoes have a mild laxative effect. Consumption by individuals experiencing diarrhea may exacerbate diarrhea symptoms, leading to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, which can negatively affect health.

5. Individuals allergic to sweet potatoes: Some people are allergic to sweet potatoes. After consumption, allergic reactions such as skin itching, swelling, rashes, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and difficulty breathing may occur. Severe cases may even be life-threatening, so these individuals should avoid consuming sweet potatoes.

Although sweet potatoes are highly nutritious, excessive consumption may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, such as bloating and gas accumulation. Therefore, it is recommended to consume sweet potatoes in moderation, and to pay attention to cooking methods and timing of consumption.
