Introduction
1. Apply topical anti-itch ointments: If your hands are burning from chili peppers, you may apply over-the-counter corticosteroid creams such as mometasone furoate cream or hydrocortisone butyrate cream. 2. Use alcohol: Wash and rub the affected area with 75% alcohol. 3. Use soap: You may also directly apply an appropriate amount of soap to the affected area; preferably Diao Brand transparent soap.

When preparing food at home, you may accidentally get chili juice on your hands while cutting chilies—causing intense burning and pain. This occurs because chilies contain capsaicin and/or capsicum alkaloids, which, upon contact with the skin, stimulate nerve endings and cause dilation of capillaries and small blood vessels, thereby accelerating local metabolism and resulting in redness and warmth of the skin. So, what methods can effectively relieve the burning sensation caused by chilies? Below, we address this question.

How to Relieve Burning Sensation After Chili Contact with Hands

1. Topical Medications

For chili-induced burning, topical anti-itch ointments may be applied, such as mometasone furoate cream, hydrocortisone butyrate cream, compound camphor cream, or calamine lotion. In cases of severe symptoms, antihistamines—including loratadine, cetirizine, and vitamin C—may be taken under a physician’s guidance to effectively alleviate the burning sensation. Additionally, rubbing hands with tea leaves may help neutralize the capsaicin.

2. Use of Alcohol

A 75% alcohol solution can be used to rub and wash affected areas. Alcohol is volatile and readily dissolves capsaicin (an alkaloid), thus helping remove it from the skin. To apply: soak a cotton swab in alcohol and gently wipe the affected area repeatedly. Alternatively, toothpaste may be applied to soothe the burning sensation; after 5–10 minutes, rinse thoroughly with water. Another option is to rub dry flour onto the hands—the flour binds with capsaicin, facilitating its removal upon subsequent rinsing.

3. Use of Soap

Applying soap directly to affected skin may also help. Diao brand transparent soap is particularly recommended: apply it generously to the hands and rub thoroughly with both hands before rinsing with clean water. Repeating this process several times can significantly reduce the burning sensation. Additionally, rinsing with vinegar may provide relief—since capsaicin is alkaline and vinegar is acidic, their neutralization reaction helps alleviate the burning.

The above outlines effective methods for relieving chili-induced burning on the hands. We hope this information proves helpful.
