Causes of Decreased Appetite in the Third Trimester

During the third trimester, some women notice a reduction in appetite—a phenomenon considered normal. This is primarily due to uterine enlargement compressing the stomach. Nevertheless, adequate nutrition remains essential during this period. Women may adopt a “small, frequent meals” approach—consuming six to eight smaller meals daily—and ensure sufficient intake of protein and energy. Easily digestible, semi-solid foods (e.g., soups, porridge, yogurt, or cheese) are recommended. Special dietary supplementation is generally unnecessary in late pregnancy, as fetal development is largely complete; maintaining a balanced, regular diet suffices. For constipation, increasing dietary fiber intake—such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains—is advisable.
