Introduction
Yellowish semen generally does not preclude fertility. Experts note that normal semen is milky white; however, persistently yellow semen in men may adversely affect fertility. Moreover, a change in semen color may indicate underlying health issues in men. Yellowish semen is a relatively common phenomenon, primarily caused by prolonged abstinence or genitourinary infection.

Under normal circumstances, freshly ejaculated semen is milky white and contains grayish-white clumps; it typically liquefies into a thin, transparent fluid within approximately 20 minutes. Yellowish semen can result from numerous causes—some physiological, others pathological. So, can men with yellow semen still father children? Below, we address this question.

Can men with yellow semen still conceive?

In most cases, yellow semen does not preclude fertility. Experts note that normal semen is milky white; however, persistently yellow semen may impair fertility. Moreover, a change in semen color often signals underlying health issues in men. Yellow semen is a relatively common phenomenon, primarily attributable to prolonged abstinence or genitourinary infection. Therefore, men experiencing yellow semen should promptly seek evaluation at a reputable urology or andrology clinic to prevent irreversible harm. Clinically, treatment for yellowish semen requires precise diagnosis and targeted therapy based on the underlying cause; once appropriately managed, semen color typically returns to normal.

Additional Information: Causes of Yellow Semen

1. Physiological factors

Physiologically induced yellow semen may occur, for example, in men who have abstained from ejaculation for an extended period. Due to concentration within the body, the ejaculated semen may appear slightly yellowish—this is considered a normal physiological phenomenon. Similarly, semen in older men may naturally appear dark yellow. Additionally, certain medications—such as vitamin supplements—can sometimes cause semen to appear yellow.

2. Pathological factors

Pathological causes of yellow semen include inflammation of the genitourinary system—for instance, prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, or epididymitis. Furthermore, hepatobiliary disorders causing jaundice—such as hepatocellular jaundice or cholestatic jaundice—may also lead to yellow semen. In such cases, yellow semen is often accompanied by clinical signs including yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes, as well as dark-colored urine.

The above provides an overview of whether yellow semen affects fertility. We hope this information is helpful to you.
