How to relieve pain during a gallstone attack
During a gallstone attack, pain can be severe and persistent. Antispasmodic medications such as anisodamine may be used to relieve biliary spasm and alleviate pain. Patients with gallstones should maintain a light, low-fat diet rich in vegetables and fruits; avoid fried or greasy foods, spicy or irritating foods, and limit alcohol consumption.
Patients with gallstones must cultivate healthy lifestyle habits. Skipping breakfast is strongly discouraged, as it delays gallbladder emptying, leads to bile concentration, and promotes cholesterol crystal precipitation—factors that predispose to gallstone formation. Recurrent gallstone attacks significantly impair quality of life; surgical intervention—including laparoscopic cholecystectomy or laparoscopic gallstone removal with gallbladder preservation—may be considered.
