Side Effects of Abortion Pills
Currently, the most commonly used medications for medical abortion are mifepristone and misoprostol. Like all medications, these two drugs carry potential side effects, which primarily include the following:
First, gastrointestinal symptoms: Many patients experience nausea, vomiting, and other symptoms similar to early pregnancy reactions after taking the medication, along with mild headache and abdominal pain.
Second, nearly all pregnancy-termination medications exert a mild effect on liver and kidney function. Therefore, liver and kidney function tests are required before initiating treatment, and follow-up testing is recommended within a specified period after medication administration.
Third, a small number of patients may develop allergic reactions—for example, severe abdominal pain or skin rash. Such reactions require prompt and appropriate management.
