Introduction
Positive for human papillomavirus (HPV) type 52—a high-risk HPV subtype. Persistent infection with this subtype is frequently associated with cervical epithelial lesions. Therefore, further evaluation with a cervical ThinPrep cytologic test (TCT) is required to rule out cervical epithelial abnormalities. If the cervical TCT results are normal, regular follow-up examinations are recommended, along with vaginal administration of Baofukang suppositories for treatment.

There are over a dozen types of human papillomavirus (HPV) infections. HPV types 16 and 18 are classified as high-risk, and persistent infection with these high-risk HPV types is strongly associated with the development of cervical cancer. Upon detection of HPV 16 or HPV 18 infection, colposcopy-guided cervical biopsy is recommended. So, what does a positive HPV 52 test result mean? Below, we address this question.

What Does a Positive HPV 52 Test Result Mean?

A positive HPV 52 test indicates infection with this high-risk HPV type. Persistent infection may lead to cervical epithelial lesions. Therefore, further evaluation with cervical cytology (TCT) is necessary to rule out cervical epithelial abnormalities. If the TCT result is normal, regular follow-up is advised, along with local vaginal treatment using Baofukang suppositories. However, if the TCT report shows atypical squamous cells, colposcopy-guided cervical biopsy is required to assess for possible cervical lesions. Daily dietary adjustments are also important: minimize intake of starchy foods, sugars, and spicy or irritating foods; instead, increase consumption of vegetables and fruits, and drink plenty of water. In addition to diet, maintain regular sleep patterns—avoid staying up late—and manage stress and negative emotions effectively.

Knowledge Extension: What Should You Do If HPV 52 Is Positive?

1. A positive HPV 52 result confirms infection with this virus, which is categorized as a high-risk type closely linked to cervical cancer. While such infection increases the risk of developing cervical cancer, it does not guarantee its occurrence. Colposcopy or cervical TCT testing is recommended for further assessment.

2. If the TCT result is normal, no immediate concern exists; however, regular follow-up is still advised. Maintain an optimistic outlook, consume ample fresh vegetables and fruits, and engage in regular physical exercise to boost immunity. In some cases, the infection may spontaneously clear within 1–2 years. For individuals with persistently positive results over prolonged periods who fail to seroconvert, early initiation of antiviral therapy and immune-enhancing agents is recommended. Sexual intercourse should be avoided during treatment.

The above outlines what a positive HPV 52 test result signifies. We hope this information is helpful to you.
