Under normal conditions—i.e., when red blood cells are absent or within the reference range—the red blood cell field reads “negative” (–). Conversely, when red blood cells are elevated—indicating occult blood—the result is reported as “positive” (+). Therefore, a positive urine occult blood test may suggest underlying conditions such as urinary tract tumors, glomerulonephritis, or urinary tract infections. However, isolated occult blood positivity alone is insufficient for definitive diagnosis, as even healthy individuals may occasionally exhibit transient occult blood; in such cases, however, the test remains negative under normal physiological conditions.
