Introduction
1. Redness and swelling of the eyelids: Daily application prevents the delicate eyelid skin from “breathing” properly, leading to redness and swelling. 2. Inflammation: Prolonged use can cause inflammation, significantly damaging the eyelid skin; in some cases, overt inflammation may occur—especially in individuals with sensitive skin. 3. Eyelid ptosis: Long-term use causes loss of skin elasticity and diminished contractility, resulting in irreversible drooping of the eyelids.

Many individuals without natural double eyelids use double-eyelid tapes when applying makeup. These tapes can enhance the appearance of one’s makeup; however, excessive or prolonged use may harm the eyelids. Common adverse effects include eyelid redness and swelling, inflammation, ptosis (eyelid drooping), and transient results.

Health Risks Associated with Frequent Use of Double-Eyelid Tapes

1. Eyelid Redness and Swelling

Double-eyelid tapes are adhesive films with relatively strong adhesion and poor breathability. Daily application impedes normal “respiration” of the delicate periorbital skin, potentially leading to eyelid redness and swelling.

2. Inflammation

The skin surrounding the eyes is exceptionally thin, delicate, and fragile. Repeated pulling and tugging during tape application can cause significant mechanical trauma to the eyelids. In some cases—particularly among individuals with sensitive skin—this may trigger inflammatory reactions.

3. Ptosis (Eyelid Drooping)

This is the most common complication. The repeated stretching involved in applying double-eyelid tapes exerts downward gravitational force on the eyelid tissue. Over time, chronic stretching compromises skin elasticity and diminishes its inherent contractile capacity. Once this occurs, the damage becomes irreversible—not only failing to produce genuine double eyelids but also accelerating visible signs of aging.

4. Transient Results

The fundamental anatomical difference between monolids and double eyelids lies in their underlying physiological structure. Double-eyelid tapes and adhesives create only a temporary fold by externally compressing and adhering the skin surface. They cannot induce permanent adhesion between the levator palpebrae superioris muscle fibers and the overlying dermis. Consequently, no amount of persistent tape use can achieve permanent eyelid reshaping.

The above outlines the potential health risks associated with frequent use of double-eyelid tapes. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
