Introduction
Can gonorrhea be cured? Patients with uncomplicated gonorrhea may receive a single intramuscular dose of ceftriaxone upon diagnosis. If the clinical response is suboptimal, the treatment regimen should be adjusted under the guidance of a physician—for example, switching to cefotaxime. Disease severity varies among patients, and therapeutic responses to medications differ accordingly. Some patients respond well to third-generation cephalosporins, while others—particularly those with complications—may experience marked symptom improvement following intramuscular spectinomycin administration.

Gonorrhea is a well-known and highly prevalent sexually transmitted infection (STI). It primarily affects young men and women, and its transmission rate is relatively high—most commonly spread through sexual contact. After infection, patients may experience symptoms such as frequent and urgent urination, abnormal vaginal discharge, and discomfort in the genital area, all of which significantly impact both physical and mental health. So, can gonorrhea be cured?

Can Gonorrhea Be Cured?

1. Conventional (Western) Medical Treatment for Gonorrhea
Patients with uncomplicated gonorrhea may receive a single intramuscular injection of ceftriaxone. If clinical response is suboptimal, treatment may be adjusted under physician guidance—for example, switching to cefotaxime. As individual disease severity varies, therapeutic outcomes also differ. Some patients achieve satisfactory results with third-generation cephalosporins; others with complications may experience marked symptom relief after intramuscular injection of spectinomycin. Notably, penicillin-class antibiotics are currently not recommended for gonorrhea due to widespread resistance and unpredictable efficacy. In special circumstances—such as life-threatening emergencies—fluoroquinolones may be considered.

2. Dietary Management as Adjunctive Therapy
Patients with gonorrhea should avoid high-calorie and spicy foods. Instead, they should consume vitamin-rich, light, and easily digestible meals, along with moderate amounts of high-protein foods. A balanced, regular, and healthy diet is paramount. Recommended beverages include winter melon soup and petalwort (Lithospermum) decoction. Foods to limit or avoid include garlic, chili peppers, and black pepper; fruits such as peaches, apricots, ginkgo nuts, and mangoes; meats including pork head, goose, chicken wings, and chicken feet; and vegetables like leeks, pickled mustard tubers, and mutton.

What Is Gonorrhea?
Gonorrhea is the most contagious and prevalent condition among the traditional “venereal diseases” (a historical term for STIs), and it is widely distributed worldwide. Clinically, gonorrhea is defined as an acute or chronic purulent inflammation of the genitourinary tract caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It is also referred to as gonococcal vaginitis or gonococcal Bartholin’s gland inflammation. Among the four major STIs, gonorrhea has the highest incidence. Sexual contact remains the primary mode of transmission. In males, the vast majority of cases result from sexual exposure. Typical clinical manifestations include urethral pruritus, burning sensation, erythema, swelling, eversion of the urethral meatus, dysuria, and erythema and edema of the glans penis and prepuce.

The above provides an overview of whether gonorrhea can be cured. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
