Introduction
Currently, in clinical practice, alcohol consumption is generally not recommended following administration of the 9-valent HPV vaccine. This vaccine is clinically used to prevent cervical cancer. After injection, some individuals may experience pronounced allergic reactions, including pruritus, erythematous rashes, vesicles, and even laryngeal edema; in severe cases, respiratory failure and asphyxiation may occur.

HPV vaccine (also known as the cervical cancer vaccine) helps prevent cervical cancer and precancerous lesions caused by high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Over 99% of cervical cancers are attributable to persistent HPV infection.

Can I drink alcohol after receiving the 9-valent HPV vaccine?

Clinically, alcohol consumption is generally not recommended following administration of the 9-valent HPV vaccine. This vaccine is designed to prevent cervical cancer. After injection, some individuals may experience pronounced allergic reactions—including pruritus, rash, vesicles, or even laryngeal edema—which, in severe cases, may progress to respiratory failure and asphyxiation.

Alcohol intake during this period may exacerbate such allergic reactions and thus poses significant risks to the patient. Consequently, clinicians typically advise against alcohol consumption following 9-valent HPV vaccination—even for individuals without contraindications to the vaccine.

Notably, “alcohol consumption” is not listed as a contraindication in the official prescribing information for the cervical cancer vaccine. However, patients are advised to avoid spicy foods, strenuous exercise, and strong tea after vaccination. In general, abstinence from alcohol is not required before, during, or after HPV vaccination for most healthy individuals. Theoretically, however, individuals who consume large quantities of alcohol daily—resulting in organ damage (e.g., alcoholic cirrhosis) or immune dysfunction (e.g., reduced CD4+ T-cell counts)—are advised to abstain from alcohol during vaccination to optimize vaccine efficacy and immune response.

We hope the above information is helpful. Wishing you good health and happiness!
