Why Does My Baby Sweat a Lot While Sleeping?
Some infants experience noticeably increased sweating during sleep, regardless of whether the weather is cool or warm. The most common cause is physiological. Because infants are young and undergoing rapid growth and development, their metabolic rate is relatively high, leading to increased sweating. This is typically normal and requires no specific intervention. However, excessive clothing, heavy bedding, and a warm ambient temperature can further exacerbate sweating.

The second category of causes is pathological. The most frequent underlying conditions include common colds, pneumonia, and diarrhea—illnesses that may weaken the infant’s constitution and thereby increase sweating. Vitamin D deficiency or calcium insufficiency also commonly presents with excessive sweating; therefore, vitamin D supplementation—and, if appropriate, calcium supplementation—should be considered. If symptoms persist despite these measures, consultation with a specialist pediatric hospital is recommended for further evaluation and diagnosis.
