Introduction
The most common cause of babies sweating during sleep is physiological. Infants and young children have rapid growth and development, resulting in a high metabolic rate. The second most common cause is pathological—particularly following illnesses such as colds, pneumonia, or diarrhea, which may leave the child physically weakened and prone to excessive sweating. Deficiencies in vitamins (especially vitamin D) and calcium also increase the likelihood of excessive sweating. If your baby experiences severe or persistent sweating, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider for evaluation and appropriate testing.

Some infants experience noticeably increased sweating during sleep, regardless of whether the weather is cool or warm. The most common cause is physiological. Because infants are young and undergoing rapid growth and development, their metabolic rate is relatively high, leading to increased sweating. This is typically normal and requires no specific intervention. However, excessive clothing, heavy bedding, and a warm ambient temperature can further exacerbate sweating.

The second category of causes is pathological. The most frequent underlying conditions include common colds, pneumonia, and diarrhea—illnesses that may weaken the infant’s constitution and thereby increase sweating. Vitamin D deficiency or calcium insufficiency also commonly presents with excessive sweating; therefore, vitamin D supplementation—and, if appropriate, calcium supplementation—should be considered. If symptoms persist despite these measures, consultation with a specialist pediatric hospital is recommended for further evaluation and diagnosis.
