Introduction
Myocardial ischemia is a manifestation of coronary artery atherosclerotic heart disease. Patients may experience symptoms such as precordial pain, palpitations, and dyspnea. If the diagnosis is confirmed, long-term oral antiplatelet therapy with aspirin is required, along with nitrates to dilate the coronary arteries and improve myocardial blood supply. If low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels are elevated, statins should be administered orally for lipid-lowering therapy.

In daily life, many middle-aged and elderly individuals are prone to myocardial ischemia. Once suspected, prompt medical evaluation is essential, as symptoms of myocardial ischemia can be complex and varied. What are the clinical manifestations of myocardial ischemia?

What Are the Clinical Manifestations of Myocardial Ischemia?

Symptoms of myocardial ischemia typically include chest pain and tightness, localized behind the sternum, with episodes usually lasting less than 15 minutes. The pain may be sharp or constricting; in atypical cases, patients may experience upper abdominal pain or non-classic dental pain. Electrocardiography (ECG) can detect signs of coronary artery insufficiency. Definitive diagnosis may be achieved via coronary angiography or coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA).

Myocardial ischemia is a manifestation of coronary artery disease (CAD). Patients may present with precordial pain, palpitations, and dyspnea. Upon confirmed diagnosis, long-term oral antiplatelet therapy—typically with aspirin—is required, along with nitrates to dilate coronary arteries and improve myocardial perfusion. If low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels are elevated, statins should be prescribed for lipid-lowering.

Other potential symptoms include throat discomfort, burning sensation, tightness, or dental pain triggered by physical exertion; chest pain or tightness following heavy meals, colds, or alcohol consumption; nocturnal chest tightness or suffocation when sleeping on a low pillow—relieved only by elevating the head with higher pillows.
