Introduction
Itching of the skin after liposuction can be relieved by applying ice packs. Additionally, topical antiallergic ointments or oral medications may be used under a physician’s guidance. Post-liposuction skin itching is primarily due to heightened skin sensitivity. If the itching results from an allergic reaction to the material of the compression garment, medications such as terbinafine may help alleviate the allergic response.

Itching of the skin after liposuction can be alleviated with cold compresses, or treated—under a physician’s guidance—with topical antiallergic ointments or oral medications.

1. Cold compresses: Post-liposuction itching primarily results from heightened skin sensitivity. Cold compresses can help relieve itching to some extent and also reduce swelling.

2. Antiallergic ointments: If itching is caused by an allergic reaction to the material of the compression garment, a physician may prescribe a topical antiallergic ointment for localized application. Concurrently, the compression garment should be replaced or worn for shorter durations.

3. Oral medications: Oral antiallergic agents—including loratadine and terbinafine—can effectively alleviate itching caused by skin hypersensitivity.

Itching after liposuction requires diligent wound-site hygiene to prevent bacterial infection. The affected skin should be kept clean and dry; contact with water should be avoided as long as possible. Dietarily, patients should consume light, non-irritating foods and increase intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, which can aid recovery from post-liposuction itching.
