It is safe for use in infants; however, the dosage must be appropriately adjusted, and concurrent use with other medications is recommended. For more severe cases of infantile eczema, calamine lotion may be added as adjunctive therapy. Additionally, applying petroleum jelly topically helps maintain skin barrier function and hydration. Low-potency topical corticosteroids such as fluocinonide (e.g., Fluocinolone Acetonide) may also be applied judiciously.

Eczema ointments are broadly classified into two categories based on whether they contain corticosteroids. Non-steroidal formulations primarily exert astringent and antipruritic effects, alleviating itching and promoting rapid crusting and healing of weeping or eroded lesions.
