They are highly effective in preventing a range of STIs, including HIV/AIDS, syphilis, mycoplasma infection, chlamydial vaginitis, gonorrhea, human papillomavirus (HPV)-related diseases, and vaginal parasitic infections—such as pubic lice (phthiriasis).

They are highly effective in preventing a range of STIs, including HIV/AIDS, syphilis, mycoplasma and chlamydia infections (e.g., chlamydial vaginitis), gonorrhea, human papillomavirus (HPV)-related diseases, and parasitic vaginal infections such as pubic lice. Therefore, consistent and correct condom use effectively reduces the risk of cross-infection between sexual partners.
If a condom breaks or is of poor quality—leading to leakage—it may result in contraceptive failure and fail to prevent STIs. Additionally, during intercourse, a condom may slip off inside the vagina, further compromising its protective effect against STIs. Certain infections—such as syphilis and gonorrhea—can be transmitted via kissing or skin-to-skin contact; therefore, condom use alone cannot fully prevent these infections.
Proper condom use is also essential. Before use, inflate the condom slightly to check for leaks, and expel any air from the tip reservoir.
