Introduction
The primary cause of skin peeling and small blisters on the fingers is commonly eczema, as its hallmark symptoms include small blisters, itching, and desquamation—particularly between the fingers. Additionally, tinea (fungal infection) should also be considered. Fungal infection of the fingers can trigger localized inflammation, resulting in blister formation and skin peeling on the affected areas.

In daily life, some individuals experience skin peeling on their fingers, sometimes accompanied by small blisters—negatively affecting appearance and causing significant distress. What causes peeling and blistering of the finger skin?

What Causes Peeling and Blistering of the Finger Skin?

The most common cause of finger skin peeling and small blisters is eczema, which typically presents with interdigital blisters, itching, and desquamation. Additionally, fungal infection—such as tinea manuum (hand dermatophytosis)—should be considered. Fungal infection of the fingers can trigger localized inflammation, resulting in blister formation and skin peeling.

First, tinea manuum must be ruled out. Patients often have a prior history of tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), and the infection usually begins unilaterally before gradually spreading to the contralateral hand. Topical antifungal agents—including sertaconazole cream, naftifine-ketoconazole cream, terbinafine cream, butenafine cream, and clotrimazole cream—are recommended, with a typical treatment duration of four weeks. Alternatively, peeling and blistering may stem from eczema, which commonly affects both hands simultaneously and may be associated with allergic reactions to contact allergens.

In daily life, maintain good local hygiene, ensure adequate rest, avoid frequent late-night activity, and obtain sufficient sleep. Diet should be light and easily digestible; minimize intake of greasy or spicy, irritating foods. Consume fresh vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins regularly.
