Introduction
Patients with diabetes may drink aged tangerine peel (chen pi) tea. Diabetes management should primarily focus on dietary control and exercise therapy. Individuals with diabetes should avoid sugary foods, limit intake of high-fat and high-cholesterol foods, consume moderate amounts of high-fiber and starchy foods, and reduce overall portion sizes. Exercise selection must be conducted under a physician’s guidance, preferably involving whole-body activities such as walking or jogging.

Chen Pi (dried tangerine or orange peel) is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb formed by sun-drying the peel of citrus fruits. Although it contains polysaccharides, its sugar content is relatively low. Chen Pi has a bitter and pungent taste and is warm in nature. It primarily affects the Lung and Spleen meridians. So, can individuals with diabetes drink Chen Pi tea?

Can people with diabetes drink Chen Pi tea?

Individuals with diabetes may consume Chen Pi tea. However, diabetes management should be grounded in dietary control and physical activity as foundational interventions. People with diabetes should avoid sugary foods, limit intake of high-fat and high-cholesterol foods, consume moderate amounts of high-fiber and starchy foods, and reduce overall carbohydrate intake. Exercise regimens must be undertaken under medical supervision, preferably involving full-body activities such as walking or slow jogging. In addition, appropriate insulin-sensitizing agents or other glucose-lowering medications may be used to achieve long-term, effective glycemic control. Nevertheless, oral hypoglycemic agents alone may not suffice—insulin therapy may still be necessary in certain cases. Consuming bitter melon may provide auxiliary blood-glucose-lowering effects. Regular self-monitoring of blood glucose levels and timely medication adjustments are essential to prevent complications.

Blood glucose levels should be measured before drinking Chen Pi infusion. Chen Pi is a commonly used herbal medicine in daily life. When steeped in water, it may enhance myocardial function, promote vasodilation, help prevent atherosclerosis, stimulate digestive fluid secretion, and facilitate the expulsion of intestinal gas.

For individuals with diabetes, moderate consumption of Chen Pi infusion may support gastric health and digestion, aid nutrient absorption, nourish the body, and benefit skin health. We hope this information is helpful to you!
