Introduction
After becoming pregnant, women can generally consume common edible mushrooms. Ordinary mushrooms are typically non-toxic; when cooked properly, they usually pose no specific adverse effects on the pregnant woman’s health or harm to the fetus. Pregnant women may safely eat shiitake mushrooms and other commonly available mushrooms. However, we advise against foraging for wild mushrooms in mountainous areas.

In daily life, some pregnant women experience elevated blood glucose levels and enjoy eating mushrooms and other fungi. So, can pregnant women with high blood sugar consume mushrooms?

Can pregnant women with high blood sugar eat mushrooms?

After becoming pregnant, women can generally consume common, commercially available mushrooms. Most ordinary mushrooms are non-toxic, and when properly cooked, they typically pose no adverse effects on maternal health or fetal development. For instance, shiitake mushrooms are generally safe for pregnant women to eat. Other commonly available, store-bought mushrooms are also acceptable. However, we strongly advise against foraging for wild mushrooms in mountains or forests. Some wild mushrooms are highly toxic—consuming them may lead to severe poisoning and even death, posing serious risks to both pregnant women and the general population.

Pregnant women with high blood sugar may consume appropriate staple foods, such as rice, steamed buns, baozi (steamed stuffed buns), jiaozi (dumplings), and vegetables. Lean meats, eggs, and dairy products can also be consumed in moderation each day. These foods are suitable for pregnant women with gestational hyperglycemia. Conversely, foods high in sugar—such as sugary fruits, pastries, congee (rice porridge), and sweetened beverages—should be avoided. While staple foods contain relatively high amounts of carbohydrates, portion control remains essential for pregnant women with elevated blood glucose.

Pregnant women with high blood sugar should pay close attention to their daily diet, avoiding foods high in sugar and excessive fat to safeguard both their own health and their baby’s healthy growth and development. We hope this information is helpful to you!
