Introduction
HIV cannot be transmitted through mosquito bites. The HIV virus cannot replicate or multiply inside mosquitoes. Moreover, the amount of blood involved in a mosquito bite is extremely small; therefore, HIV transmission via mosquito bites is not possible. The primary modes of HIV transmission are blood-to-blood contact, sexual contact, mother-to-child (vertical) transmission, and other less common routes.

AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is a common disease that significantly impacts people’s daily lives. Some mosquitoes may bite an individual with HIV/AIDS and then bite another person. So, can HIV be transmitted through mosquito bites?

Can HIV be transmitted through mosquito bites?

No, HIV cannot be transmitted via mosquito bites. The HIV virus cannot replicate or survive inside mosquitoes. Moreover, the amount of blood transferred during a mosquito bite is extremely small—insufficient to transmit HIV. The primary modes of HIV transmission are blood-to-blood contact, sexual contact, mother-to-child (vertical) transmission, and other routes such as occupational exposure among healthcare workers and iatrogenic transmission. Casual everyday interactions—including conversation, handshaking, hugging, or sharing meals—do not pose any risk of HIV transmission.

HIV transmission occurs primarily through three main routes: first, bloodborne transmission; second, sexual contact; and third, mother-to-child transmission. Bloodborne transmission commonly occurs via transfusion of HIV-contaminated blood or blood products—a classic mode of transmission. Additionally, people who inject drugs and share needles are at high risk for HIV transmission through blood. Sharing needles may directly introduce infected blood from one person into another’s bloodstream via the needle puncture site—making this a highly dangerous transmission route.

In daily life, it is important to take preventive measures against mosquito bites to avoid skin infections and related disruptions to daily activities. We hope this information has been helpful to you!
