Can cold medicine be taken after drinking alcohol?
Cold medications themselves do not chemically react with alcohol; therefore, it is generally permissible to take cold medicine after drinking alcohol. However, if the patient is taking cephalosporin antibiotics or metronidazole, alcohol consumption must be strictly avoided during treatment. These medications can trigger a disulfiram-like reaction when combined with alcohol, potentially causing serious harm to the body.

Common cold symptoms vary widely. For instance: - Wind-cold感冒: characterized by clear, watery nasal discharge, pronounced aversion to cold, mild fever, muscle and joint aches, or a sensation of heaviness in the body; - Wind-heat感冒: marked by high fever, mild aversion to cold, sore throat, yellow nasal discharge, and dark yellow urine; - Summer-damp感冒: typically occurs seasonally during hot, humid weather and presents with headache, dizziness, generalized fatigue, joint pain, nasal congestion or discharge, sneezing, nausea, and vomiting. Prompt treatment is essential upon developing a cold. Oral cold medications such as Compound Paracetamol and Amantadine Hydrochloride Tablets, Bei Douchen Capsules, or Ganmao Qing Capsules may be used. If nausea and vomiting occur—suggestive of gastroenteric influenza—oral administration of Huoxiang Zhengqi Soft Capsules, Changyan Ling Capsules, or Qizhi Weitong Granules may be considered.
