Introduction
Patients with hyperuricemia can consume a wide variety of fruits. However, there is currently no definitive research identifying the “best” fruits for this condition. Examples of suitable fruits include bananas, apples, and peaches. Among these, pears, apples, cherries, strawberries, and grapes are particularly beneficial for lowering serum uric acid levels. Additionally, corn—though technically a grain rather than a fruit—offers greater benefits for gout patients compared with many other fruits.

Elevated uric acid refers to serum uric acid levels exceeding the normal upper limit. However, elevated uric acid does not necessarily equate to hyperuricemia, as uric acid levels are closely associated with gender and age. So, which fruits are suitable for individuals with elevated uric acid?

Fruits Suitable for Individuals with Elevated Uric Acid

Patients with hyperuricemia may consume a wide variety of fruits. However, no definitive research has yet identified a single “best” fruit. Examples include bananas, apples, and peaches. Among these, pears, apples, cherries, strawberries, and grapes are particularly beneficial for lowering uric acid levels. Additionally, corn offers greater benefits for gout patients compared with other fruits.

There are numerous causes of elevated uric acid, including genetic factors, lifestyle habits, and certain medications. Broadly speaking, hyperuricemia arises from either (1) increased purine metabolism leading to excessive uric acid production, or (2) reduced renal excretion of uric acid, resulting in elevated serum uric acid levels. Some patients exhibit both mechanisms simultaneously. Not all individuals with elevated uric acid require pharmacological uric acid–lowering therapy; lifestyle modifications alone may effectively reduce uric acid levels. However, if uric acid remains persistently elevated—especially when accompanied by acute gouty arthritis—appropriate drug therapy is warranted.

Regarding other foods, avoid those high in purines and those rich in fat or malic acid (e.g., certain fruits). Additionally, increase fluid intake, and consume protein-rich foods such as milk and yogurt to help control serum uric acid levels. We hope this information proves helpful!
