Can uterine fibroids affect pregnancy after surgery?
Following surgical treatment for uterine fibroids, pregnancy is generally not affected. Fibroid surgery is typically performed on the surface of the uterus; in most cases, fibroids do not directly invade the myometrium (uterine muscle layer). Consequently, the uterine muscle fibers remain intact, and subsequent fertility is usually unaffected. However, the optimal timing for conception after fibroid surgery cannot be predetermined—it depends entirely on the individual patient’s postoperative recovery of the uterus and overall health. Since physical constitutions vary significantly among individuals, the rate of post-surgical recovery also differs, directly influencing the recommended duration of contraception.

If a patient enjoys good physical health and recovers rapidly after surgery, the uterus may fully recover to its normal state within approximately six months. In such cases, pregnancy preparation may begin around six months postoperatively. Nevertheless, to optimize preconception outcomes, it is advisable to undergo a preconception check-up at a hospital prior to attempting conception. This evaluation helps determine whether the body is ready for pregnancy. If no abnormalities are detected, the patient may proceed with conception planning.
