Introduction
Prevention of chronic pharyngitis emphasizes oral hygiene: consume more fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C, as well as foods high in collagen and elastin—such as pig trotters, fish, dairy products, legumes, animal livers, and lean meats. Maintain good personal hygiene and wash hands frequently. Gargle with mild saline solution morning and evening; afterward, drink a cup of mild saline water to cleanse and moisturize the throat, helping prevent bacterial infection. Keep warm and prevent diseases affecting the mouth and nose.

Chronic pharyngitis is a common condition in daily life, and certain professions—such as teachers and television or radio hosts—are at higher risk.

How to Prevent Chronic Pharyngitis

Prevention of chronic pharyngitis emphasizes oral hygiene: consume fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C, as well as foods high in collagen and elastin—such as pig trotters, fish, dairy products, legumes, animal livers, and lean meats. Maintain personal hygiene and wash hands frequently. Gargle with lukewarm saline solution morning and evening; afterward, drink a small cup of diluted salt water to cleanse and moisturize the throat, helping prevent bacterial infection. Keep warm and prevent upper respiratory tract infections: onset of chronic pharyngitis is often associated with inadequate warmth around the mouth, nose, and body. Therefore, ensure indoor temperatures are not excessively cold while sleeping; dry your body and hair thoroughly after bathing or washing your hair; and wear a mask when going outdoors or cycling on cold mornings to protect your nose and mouth from dry, cold air.

Individuals with chronic pharyngitis invariably experience throat discomfort—often described as a foreign-body sensation or difficulty swallowing; severe cases may even involve a burning sensation. During active inflammation, the throat becomes intensely itchy, triggering an irresistible urge to cough. Occasionally, additional symptoms such as halitosis (bad breath) and constipation may occur.

Patients with chronic pharyngitis should avoid specific dietary triggers: abstain from smoking and alcohol, and refrain from consuming spicy or irritating foods. Chronic pharyngitis requires gradual, long-term management—there is no immediate or “one-step” cure. Each morning upon waking, apply a small amount of mentholated oil (e.g., “Feng You Jing”) to the palms and gently massage the throat area clockwise for 20–30 repetitions. Consistent practice over approximately one year typically yields noticeable improvement. We hope this information proves helpful!
