Introduction
In women, frequent urination is most commonly caused by urinary tract infections (UTIs). The primary reason women are more susceptible to UTIs is their relatively short urethra, which is located in close proximity to the vagina. Poor personal hygiene or sharing of sanitary items can lead to infection, often resulting in increased urinary frequency. Additionally, urinary tract stones, tumors, or other pathological conditions can also cause urinary frequency.

Some women experience urinary frequency, a symptom that significantly impacts their daily lives. So, what causes urinary frequency in women?

Causes of Urinary Frequency in Women

Urinary frequency in women is most commonly caused by urinary tract infections (UTIs). Women are particularly susceptible to UTIs primarily because their urethra is relatively short and located close to the vagina. Poor personal hygiene or sharing sanitary items can lead to infection, often resulting in frequent urination. Urinary tract stones, tumors, or other pathological conditions may also cause urinary frequency. In certain cases, urinary frequency may occur without an identifiable underlying cause—such as overactive bladder, bladder hypersensitivity, or detrusor overactivity.

Due to anatomical differences, UTIs are extremely common among women. For UTI treatment, antibiotics such as levofloxacin or fosfomycin are typically prescribed for approximately 3–7 days. If urinary frequency persists despite ruling out a UTI, overactive bladder syndrome (OAB) may be diagnosed. The exact etiology of OAB remains unclear but may involve abnormal detrusor muscle contractions. First-line pharmacological treatment consists of anticholinergic agents (M-receptor antagonists), with tolterodine and solifenacin being the most commonly used.

Women should pay close attention to routine self-care. Should any concerning symptoms arise, prompt medical evaluation and treatment are essential. We hope this information has been helpful. Wishing you good health and happiness!
