What should I do if I have a retroverted uterus and want to get pregnant?
A retroverted uterus refers to a uterus whose longitudinal axis remains unchanged but is tilted backward as a whole. This positioning often causes the cervix to tilt upward (i.e., uterine retroversion), making it less likely for the cervix to be immersed in the seminal pool—potentially impairing conception. Strategies to enhance pregnancy chances include:
Adopting appropriate sexual positions for women with a retroverted uterus can significantly improve conception success rates. During intercourse, the “doggy-style” (quadruped) position is generally recommended. Specifically, the woman kneels on the bed or floor with both knees touching the ground and legs naturally apart; the man supports her pubic area, buttocks, or lower back and enters vaginally while closely aligning his body against hers.

During rear-entry intercourse, the angle of the erect penis closely matches the natural angle of the vagina in women with a retroverted uterus, facilitating deeper vaginal penetration. This helps retain ejaculated semen in the vaginal fornix, thereby increasing the likelihood of sperm–egg union.
During intercourse, placing a soft cushion or small pillow of appropriate thickness beneath the woman’s buttocks to slightly elevate them can help direct ejaculated semen toward the posterior vaginal fornix. After intercourse, she should remain lying down with her hips elevated for 20–30 minutes. Additionally, she should refrain from urinating for at least 30 minutes post-ejaculation to minimize semen leakage and maximize sperm entry into the uterine cavity.
