Introduction
Causes of Chronic Diarrhea: 1. Frequent diarrhea is primarily attributable to dietary factors. Many individuals have irregular eating habits and frequently consume raw, cold, irritating, or spicy foods. Prolonged episodes of overeating, binge eating, or drinking ice-cold water can disrupt normal gastrointestinal function. Dietary irritants accelerate intestinal motility, leading to chronic diarrhea. 2. Individuals with compromised gastrointestinal function must not only pay attention to their diet but also ensure adequate clothing—insufficient attire may also trigger diarrhea.

Diarrhea is very common in daily life. There are numerous potential causes for recurrent diarrhea, and preventive measures must therefore be taken seriously in everyday life. So, what causes persistent or chronic diarrhea?

What Causes Persistent Diarrhea?

1. Frequent diarrhea is primarily attributable to dietary factors. Many people have irregular eating habits and regularly consume raw, cold, irritating, or spicy foods. Chronic overeating, binge drinking, and consuming icy beverages can disrupt normal gastrointestinal function. Dietary irritants accelerate intestinal motility, leading to prolonged or recurrent diarrhea.

2. Individuals with compromised gastrointestinal function must not only pay attention to diet but also dress appropriately—wearing insufficient clothing may trigger diarrhea. Consuming spoiled or contaminated food introduces pathogenic bacteria into the intestines, damaging the intestinal mucosa and predisposing individuals to diarrhea.

3. Persistent diarrhea may stem from underlying intestinal diseases. Colitis, for instance, is relatively common. Inflammatory stimulation impairs the colon’s ability to absorb water from fecal matter, causing stool to pass rapidly through the intestine and resulting in frequent diarrhea.

The main complications include loss of essential nutrients and consequent malnutrition. Functional diarrhea—such as that associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or indigestion—may cause additional symptoms beyond malnutrition. In contrast, diarrhea caused by specific pathological conditions—including ulcerative colitis, intestinal tuberculosis, or gastrointestinal tumors—can pose serious, even life-threatening, risks.

Chronic diarrhea warrants prompt medical attention and active treatment. We hope this information has been helpful. Wishing you good health and a joyful life!
