Why do sperm turn yellow, and how can this be normalized?
Some men notice that their semen appears yellow, and those without a clear understanding often mistakenly assume they have a medical condition. So, how can yellow semen return to normal?
How to Restore Yellow Semen to Normal
If semen color turns yellow, consider whether it may be due to prolonged abstinence. If yellowing is caused by infrequent ejaculation, regular ejaculation—approximately twice per week—can help restore semen to its normal grayish-white color. However, if you ejaculate regularly twice weekly yet the semen remains yellow, evaluate your dietary habits for any unusual or pigment-rich foods. If no such dietary factors are identified, consult a healthcare provider for semen analysis to assess whether there is dysfunction in the accessory sex glands (e.g., prostate, seminal vesicles).

Normal semen is typically grayish-white or pale yellow. Prolonged retention of semen may cause it to darken to yellow or deep yellow. Daily consumption of foods such as cherries, strawberries, tomatoes, and carrots may lead to temporary discoloration and pigment deposition in semen. If food-related (e.g., excessive carrot intake), reducing or avoiding these items usually allows semen color to normalize.

In daily life, maintaining a positive mental state, avoiding excessive physical fatigue and psychological stress, practicing moderate sexual activity, and observing good personal hygiene can all help prevent abnormal semen discoloration.
