Diabetic patients should not consume Manuka honey. In their daily diet, individuals with diabetes must strictly limit intake of sweets and foods high in sugar. Honey is rich in carbohydrates and has a relatively high glycemic index; consuming honey can cause a rapid rise in blood glucose levels in diabetic patients, thereby worsening their symptoms. Additionally, diabetic patients should also avoid honey-glazed snacks such as fried twisted dough sticks (mahua) and candied fruits.
