Is blood pressure higher or lower after exercise?
Disease description:
I enjoy exercising regularly. After each workout, I measure my blood pressure. Could you please tell me whether blood pressure tends to be higher or lower immediately after exercise?
Blood pressure typically rises after physical activity, especially in individuals with pre-existing hypertension. Intense exercise can cause a marked increase in blood pressure, significantly raising the risk of cerebrovascular events—most commonly intracerebral hemorrhage. Therefore, vigorous exercise is not recommended for hypertensive patients. Instead, blood pressure must be actively controlled, and patients should engage in moderate physical activity. Adequate rest, avoidance of overexertion, a light diet, and avoidance of spicy, stimulating, and greasy foods are essential. Smoking and alcohol consumption must also be avoided.
