Is a heart rate of 86 beats per minute normal?
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve noticed my heartbeat feels slightly faster than usual. Is a heart rate of 86 beats per minute normal?
The heartbeat is highly regular. In healthy individuals at rest, the normal heart rate ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute. A heart rate exceeding 100 beats per minute indicates tachycardia, which may cause symptoms such as palpitations or a sensation of a racing heart. It is recommended that you consult a cardiologist at a hospital. Diagnostic tests—including ambulatory electrocardiography (Holter monitoring) and echocardiography—may be performed to assess for any abnormalities. Once the underlying cause is identified, appropriate pharmacologic therapy to control heart rate can be initiated. Avoid strenuous physical activity.
