Certain ingredients in medications may affect the healthy development of the fetus; therefore, pregnant women should generally avoid taking medications whenever possible. If constipation occurs, Smecta (dioctahedral smectite) may be taken—it has no adverse effects on the fetus. Additionally, eating steamed apples can also help alleviate diarrhea. During pregnancy, it is recommended to eat small, frequent meals and avoid raw, cold, spicy, greasy, or fried foods.
