Can blood tests be performed when a person has a fever?
Disease description:
I’ve been feeling unwell recently and went to the hospital for a blood test, but I’ve had a mild fever over the past few days. Is it okay to have a blood test while running a fever?
Fever falls under the domain of infectious diseases and is clinically most commonly caused by infections with various microorganisms. Less frequently, it may result from hematologic or immune system disorders. Blood tests can typically determine whether the fever is due to a viral or bacterial infection. Based on the test results, physicians will implement appropriate treatment measures. Patients should drink plenty of fluids. Antipyretics are recommended when body temperature exceeds 38.5°C.
