Is a blood pressure reading of 142 (systolic) / 88 (diastolic) normal?
Disease description:
This morning, after getting up, I measured my blood pressure and wanted to check whether a reading of 142/88 mmHg (systolic/diastolic) is normal.
You currently have Stage 1 hypertension. The diagnosis of hypertension is based on a systolic blood pressure below 140 mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure below 90 mmHg; however, your readings are slightly elevated. Please pay close attention to this. Adopt dietary control measures: lose weight if overweight, follow a low-salt, low-fat diet, quit smoking and alcohol, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and drink plenty of water. For now, conservative management—primarily lifestyle and dietary modifications—is recommended; pharmacological treatment is not yet necessary.
