I’ve always been in excellent health, but during a company-organized physical examination, it was discovered that my alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level is low. What does a low ALT level mean?

A slightly low alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level may indicate hepatocellular damage and corresponding impairment of liver function. Patients with viral hepatitis are particularly prone to decreased ALT levels, often accompanied by reduced coagulation function. However, if an individual is otherwise healthy and asymptomatic, a mildly low ALT level is typically within the normal physiological range and does not require specific treatment.
