There are numerous causes of cerebral hypoperfusion, with the most common being cerebral arteriosclerosis. In many elderly individuals, vascular wall elasticity declines with advancing age, leading to arteriosclerosis and consequently reduced blood flow through the arteries—resulting in insufficient cerebral blood supply. Additionally, patients with hyperlipidemia may develop thickening of the vascular intima due to lipid deposition, which can also impair cerebral arterial blood supply.
