What is Ambroxol Hydrochloride?
Disease description:
While I was receiving an intravenous infusion, the medication bottle was labeled “ambroxol hydrochloride.” What is ambroxol hydrochloride?
Ambroxol Hydrochloride Tablets are a bronchial expectorant used for intravenous infusion, typically administered via intravenous drip in combination with glucose or normal saline. They are primarily indicated for the treatment of cough with sputum production—particularly when sputum is viscous and difficult to expel. These tablets are especially useful in respiratory disorders such as acute and chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Ambroxol hydrochloride helps thin and loosen mucus, thereby facilitating its clearance from the bronchi and alleviating associated symptoms. Additionally, this drug offers another therapeutic advantage: when co-administered with antibiotics, it enhances their antibacterial efficacy.
