Disease description:

A few days ago, when I went back to visit my mother, she was in so much leg pain that she couldn’t walk—even bending her knees was impossible. The doctor diagnosed her with bone spurs accompanied by osteophyte formation (bone overgrowth). What should we do?

Knee osteophytes (bone spurs) accompanied by osteophytosis are common degenerative conditions among middle-aged and elderly individuals and are frequently encountered in orthopedic practice. Most patients present with unilateral knee pain. Pain may become severe enough to impair normal knee extension. Radiographic evaluation typically reveals findings consistent with osteoarthritis. Imaging studies commonly show osteophytes. Following diagnosis, oral medications such as Xianling Gubao Capsules or ibuprofen may be prescribed for symptomatic relief. In severe cases refractory to conservative management, surgical intervention may be considered.
