Diarrhea patients must not drink beer. During diarrhea, the gastrointestinal tract is already compromised; consuming beer at this time can severely irritate the intestines, worsening diarrhea and potentially leading to exhaustion or syncope. When experiencing diarrhea, the gastrointestinal tract is particularly vulnerable—thus, cold, greasy, or highly irritating foods should be avoided. Beer contains alcohol, which irritates the gastrointestinal tract and interferes with its rest and recovery, hindering the treatment of diarrhea. Drinking chilled beer further intensifies gastrointestinal irritation and exacerbates the severity of diarrhea.
