What should be done for water intoxication?
Disease description:
A friend has developed water intoxication due to excessive water intake. What should be done for water intoxication?
Water intoxication is a toxic condition caused by excessive water intake, leading to hyponatremia (low sodium levels) and dehydration. First, assess the severity of the water intoxication. In mild cases, immediately stop fluid intake; symptoms typically resolve spontaneously once the body eliminates the excess water. In severe cases, hospitalization and medical intervention—including possible surgical treatment—are required. During the day, limit water intake—generally no more than eight glasses per day.
